The primary goal of the Marketing Team is to drive growth at Marlin and increase awareness of Marlin’s brand and products. The Director of Brand & Marketing Communications will be the steward of Marlin’s brand and will be responsible for defining brand identity and positioning, driving brand awareness and creating brand loyalty and advocacy. You will be responsible for all marketing communications including email, direct mail, print & tradeshow collateral, website content as well as blogs & social media. In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of customer needs & preferences and work with teams across the company to create communications that reinforce a consistent brand identity and create an impact.

In this role you will:

  • Be the owner of the Marlin brand identity, positioning and standards in all communications, internally and externally
  • Lead customer and market research across different constituencies (small business customers, equipment dealers/ vendors, employees) to evaluate, define and strengthen brand positioning, awareness, relevance and advocacy
  • Own marketing assets, communication and messaging across all channels – sales collateral, tradeshows, website, digital & print advertising, email, etc.
  • Work with other marketing and sales teams to develop marketing communication that reinforces the brand and creates a connection with customers while driving action
  • Develop and own the content strategy including blogs, social media, newsletters & whitepapers, and lead development and distribution of content through different channels
  • Own the content on the website and online platforms (digital loan application, account servicing, dealer portal) and work with design teams to ensure that they engage users across a variety of usecases e.g. new small business customer vs existing customer vs equipment dealer
  • Measure customer advocacy using a variety of tools (NPS surveys, online ratings, customer satisfaction) and be the internal voice of the customer to drive increase in brand advocacy and referral
  • Own the PR strategy for Marlin and partner with other teams to ensure corporate communications are consistent with the brand strategy
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Service teams to drive internal adoption of & engagement with the brand and enable employees to reinforce the brand in all customer interactions
  • Partner with HR on internal communications and create engagement & excitement on Marlin’s mission, vision, values and brand identity
  • Lead and mentor a small team and manage external vendor relationships to deliver great work


To succeed in this role you’ll need:

  • 10+ years’ experience in brand and marketing communications
  • Experience in leading brand strategy and customer research
  • Strong customer empathy with a proven ability to understand customer needs, preferences & attitudes
  • Experience in leading creative teams to develop highly effective marketing communications and customer experiences
  • Exceptional written communication and a proven ability to develop marketing campaigns that create an emotional connection with customers and drive brand identity and advocacy
  • Exceptional verbal and visual communication skills with the ability to present to senior executives and communicate effectively across the organization
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, able to dive into the details with a desire to solve problems and make an impact to business results
  • Ability to critically assess, drive action, and deliver meaningful results in a high-paced environment 
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and effectively prioritize across competing organizational goals
  • Ability to recruit, mentor and develop a high performing creative team
  • A passion for working with and helping small businesses
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
